The Corsair II was designed to meet the U.S. Navy's need for a subsonic attack aircraft. The Air Force requested the aircraft in 1967. To meet USAF requirements the engine was changed from the Navy's TF-30 to the TF-41 adding an additional 2000 Lbs of thrust. The 20 mm gun was installed under the left side of the nose and a new advanced attack system with a digital computer, heads up display, projected map display and a laser rangefinder was added. Receptacle in-flight refueling was introduced in the 17th production model. During the Vietnam War the A-7D demonstrated outstanding precision in attacking ground targets. On July 15, 1973, an A-7D of the 354th TRW landed in Thailand after flying the last combat mission of the war over Southeast Asia. This aircraft served at Luke AFB, Davis-Monthan AFB and Lowry AFB. In May 2001 the aircraft was transferred by truck to March Field Air Museum.
69-6188 served the U.S.A.F. from 1970-1992.

This aircraft is on loan from the U.S. Air Force Museum.
